Forging is a manufacturing process involving the shaping of metal using localized compressive forces. Forging is often classified according to the temperature at which it is performed: "cold", "warm", or "hot" forging. Forged parts can range in weight from less than a kilogram to 580 metric tons. Forged parts usually require further processing to achieve a finished part.
Precision aluminum forging are aluminum metal components plastically deformed to a finished part shape, engineered and toleranced to require little, if any, subsequent processing. They are characterized by 0 and 1 degree draft angles, thin sections, small radii, excellent surface condition and often feature multiple parting lines, allowing horizontal as well as vertical projections while permitting optimum grain flow control.
Technical Advantages of Precision Aluminum Forging
◆Part geometries - back draft, lateral protrusions or undercuts can frequently be made without machining.
◆Tolerance control - dimensions are frequently held to substantially less than tolerances for conventional forging and often co mpare with those of a machined part.
◆Weight savings - part may be designed to actual requirements without production limitations. Surfaces which usually require 3 - 6 degree draft may be specified 0 - degree. This permits mating with other parts without machining, as well as reduction in weight.
